Every July 24, the world pauses to say thank you to the people standing post. International Security Officers’ Day recognizes the officers who keep buildings, hospitals, schools, shelters, and events safe — work that mostly goes unnoticed precisely because it is being done well.
Why July 24?
The date — 24/7 in day/month format — was chosen deliberately: security is a twenty-four-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week profession. While most of the city sleeps, officers are walking patrols, checking doors, watching cameras, and writing the reports that keep everyone else accountable.
The Work Behind the Uniform
A security officer’s shift is a long exercise in vigilance: hours of routine punctuated by moments that demand instant judgment. The training reflects that — New York requires every guard to master legal authority, emergency response, fire safety, communication, and de-escalation before they ever stand a post, and to refresh that training every single year.
To the Officers We’ve Trained
Star Security Training has trained more than 100,000 students since 2009, and our graduates are standing posts across all five boroughs right now — in hospital lobbies, school entrances, shelter doorways, and event gates. To every one of you: your professionalism is noticed, your presence matters, and this day is yours.
