How do I get a security guard license in New York State?

You must be 18+, a US citizen or authorized to work, complete the 8-Hour Pre-Assignment course, pass a background check, and apply through NYS DCJS. Star Security Training is a NYS DCJS-approved provider in Brooklyn.

How much does security guard training cost?

The 8-Hour Pre-Assignment course is $100, the 16-Hour OJT is $200, and our Fast Track Package is $300. Annual renewal is $80.

Do you accept Workforce1 vouchers?

Yes. Star Security Training is an NYC Workforce1-approved provider. Eligible candidates can use vouchers to cover 8-Hour and 16-Hour training courses for free.

How long does it take to become a licensed security guard in NY?

You can complete required training in as little as 3 days with our Fast Track Package, then apply for your NYS license. Total processing typically takes 3–6 weeks.
